Institute

The Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology is responsible for the improvement of health care in the field of psychiatry and neurology and to conduct research in these and allied fields. The newest sector, Mental Health Centrum, is functioning as a community mental health care system, broadly implementing the idea of self help management of mental disorder. A Mental Health Program for Poland was developed by the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in collaboration with the WHO. In January 2005 the Institute acquired ISO 9001-2000. In 1992 the Institute attained the status of WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health.

Main tasks: IPN will conduct a systematic review of the European literature on schizophrenia; train in the train the trainer course; undertake the focus group with patients with schizophrenia; implement the harmonized protocol for documenting psychosocial difficulties associated with schizophrenia in clinical settings; and contribute to dissemination activities.

Previous experience relevant to these tasks: IPN has experience in EU funded projects, such as the FP6 EMILIA funded project “Empowerment of Mental Illness Service Users: Life Long Learning, Integration and Action”, the FP5 OSCAR funded project “Occupational stress with mental health clients in acute response”, the project “Mental health evaluation of the children and adolescents in selected populations”, and the national grant “A trial of physician advice in Polish primary care sites” from the National Institutes of Health.
